CHC Policy Forum and California Housing Hall of Fame

As you may know, California Housing Consortium (CHC) annual event is coming up on May 15th. Our CHC Policy Forum and California Housing Hall of Fame will be held at the Los Angeles Central Library. The morning forum will feature State Treasurer Bill Lockyer and a roundtable panel addressing California's housing problem - our long-standing production deficiency and the exacerbating factors of the current mortgage meltdown and credit crisis.

Sacramento Updates

It has been largely quiet inside the State Capitol as legislators and staff winnowed proposed bill ideas down to the dozen or so each member will introduce by next week's deadline. Speaker hopefuls pursed every angle this week jockeying for leadership of the Assembly, with the vote for that position now set for March 11.

State HCD Delays Releasing Infill Infrastructure Guidelines

The response from affordable housing advocates to the initial Infill Infrastructure Guidelines has caused the state's HCD to delay releasing the second draft.

More than 700 comments from 77 organizations were received by HCD. A very short comment period on the second draft is anticipated, possibly as short as one-week, with the NOFA expected shortly thereafter.

After 51 days, the California Legislature finally resolved the budget concerns of Republican senators and passed a state budget with the required two-thirds majority. Governor Schwarzenegger reviewed the budget sent to him and released his version with up to $700 million eliminated through his "blue pencil" line-item veto authority.
