SAVE THE DATE! June 11, 2009
With an economy in crisis, fueled by increasing job losses and
rising rates of foreclosure, our country faces unprecedented
challenges. To bring attention to the needs of America's
communities, NCRC is organizing "Jobs and Homes Now!" a
Day of Action on June 11, 2009, to be held in 50 states and
in at least 50 locations (urban and rural) nationwide.
NCRC, led by its 25-member Board of Directors, will work with
its membership, national and community-based organizations
to hold the June 11th, Day of Action with three main areas
of focus:
1. Create Jobs. Create jobs for areas with
disproportionately high levels of unemployment
2. Stop Foreclosures. Stop foreclosures in areas with
disproportionately high rates of foreclosure
3. Rebuild Communities. Invest in communities with
the greatest infrastructure needs; e.g., areas with
historically inferior or poorly maintained infrastructure
NCRC has identified these as the three priority areas
necessary for economic recovery, and will work with targeted
national organizations, faith-based and labor union groups,
to push federal legislation that will address these areas.
Participating organizations, under the banner of "Jobs and
Homes Now," will have conversations in their communities
with policymakers (their national and local representatives,
governors, and others) about how local and state needs can
be addressed by action at the federal level.
The National Day of Action will also give NCRC the opportunity
to seek legislative support for CRA Modernization and a
comprehensive anti-predatory lending law.
