Los Angeles, CA
This event is open to non-profit foreclosure counselors and government agencies who operate in this arena.
The Rural Community Assistance Corporation (RCAC) and California Reinvestment Coalition (CRC) invite you to register for a new training session: Legal Services Resources for Foreclosure Intervention Counselors in California.
Follow this link to register: http://www.rcac.org/events.aspx?250
The event will be held at the Federal Reserve Bank in Los Angeles.
Check-in will begin at 9 am and class ends at 4 pm. Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.
This course will help foreclosure intervention counselors make intelligent and efficient referrals for legal services based on what is available in the Los Angeles Area. It is intended to supplement existing training opportunities for foreclosure intervention counselors and assumes that participants have received training that provided them with the basic knowledge and skills to successfully deliver counseling assistance to delinquent borrowers.
Enrollment is limited to organizations in the Los Angeles Area and one person per Agency, with more allowed if space permits. This training is open only for nonprofit housing counseling agencies or local jurisdictions that conduct counseling.
Confirmation of acceptance, location and complete details to be made no later than February 17, 2009. As space is limited please do not register unless you truly plan to attend, as you may prevent someone else from attending.
An additional training event will be held
• Santa Ana: May 14, 2009 (registration will open up approximately 30 days prior to the event)
Please plan to attend the location nearest you. This one-day course focuses on local legal resources for counseling agencies and therefore it is important that we limit attendance to those in the general area of the training location. We will review the registration list for the LA event and will ask those who reside further south to attend the second event in Santa Ana.
As space is limited and we want to avoid a "no show" taking a valuable slot that someone else could have used, we are asking that you register only if you truly plan to attend. While the event is free, we may institute a payment penalty for "no shows". Funding is limited and it costs us dearly to pay for training materials and food for no-shows. Depending on the number of registrants, we may limit attendance to one person per agency.
Course Description
Providing assistance and relief to borrowers faced with defaults and foreclosures are pressing priorities. Acting as knowledgeable "trusted advisors," housing counselors provide critical support for delinquent borrowers in navigating the complex process of negotiating with servicers through the loss mitigation process. However, some borrowers may be victims of illegal practices and need affordable, specialized legal services – a limited resource in California. This course provides targeted and localized training for foreclosure intervention counselors in California on legal services resources to ensure that clients receive needed legal services; complaints against bad actors are filed; and counselors' negotiation skills are strengthened.
