JOB ANNOUNCEMENT Exciting Opportunity for a Community Organizer Housing LB is a grass roots affordable housing advocacy coalition that was formed in 2002 to bring together tenants, community based organizations and others to engage in coordinated affordable housing advocacy in Long Beach. Housing LB's mission is to preserve and increase the supply of affordable housing for low income Long Beach residents. Housing LB is engaged in numerous affordable housing legislative and policy campaigns to further its mission. Job Description: Housing LB seeks an experienced full-time community organizer to organize low income Long Beach tenants around its affordable housing legislative and policy campaigns. The organizer's work will be focused on expanding HLB's existing low income tenant membership base and mentoring additional low income tenant leaders within HLB. Position Responsibilities: The organizer's primary responsibilities will include: finding and developing tenant leaders; conducting outreach through door knocking, meetings at apartment buildings and one-on-one meetings; developing outreach materials; conducting educational forums; and working with Housing LB Board members and member organizations. The organizer will also conduct leadership and organizing trainings. Finally, the organizer will assist with Housing LB's fundraising efforts, including grant applications and grass roots fundraising activities. Qualifications: Applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to social justice. Applicants must also be willing to work evenings and weekends when necessary and must be able to work independently. Skills required include: · Strong community outreach, organizing and engagement skills · Excellent analytical skills · Excellent written and verbal communication skills · Computer skills · Proven track record in community organizing and mobilization · Preference for bilingual applicants (Spanish or Khmer) · Preference for applicants with tenant organizing experience and/or those who have worked on affordable housing campaigns Salary and Benefits: Salary commensurate with experience.
