1) Summary of Organization: The Coalition on Regional Equity (CORE) promotes regional development enhances the health of lower income neighborhoods and communities of color. CORE advocates for land use practices that advance inclusive communities, walk-able neighborhoods, investment in existing communities, preservation of working farms and open space, clean air and access to fresh foods. CORE is a project of the Sacramento Housing Alliance, an affordable housing advocacy organization.

Summary of Position: The Program Director will work with the Executive Director of the Housing Alliance to staff the Coalition on Regional Equity. The program director is the primary staff person for the coalition. The responsibilities of the position include organizing, communications, reporting and policy advocacy.
Community Organizing and Coalition Building
• Provide vision and leadership for a regional, broad-based campaign to build power and create change on regional land use issues
• Recruit and organize coalition organizations, community partners, and individuals
• Staff the Steering Committee which sets the agenda and priorities for CORE
Advocacy
• Monitor local policy related to housing, transportation and other land-use practices as they relate to health disparities
• Organize campaigns to promote healthy land use policies in the region
Education and Outreach
• Produce the website updates, fact sheets, advocacy alerts, press releases, website development, and other educational materials
• Coordinate regional equity summits, quarterly meetings and round table discussions
• Develop and maintain strong contacts with the media
Additional Duties
• Provide support to other SHA campaigns and projects
• Assist in event planning for actions, fundraising and membership events
• Produce grant reports and evaluations

Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time salaried position with medical and dental benefits. Salary is competitive and based on experience.

Preferred Attributes
The ideal candidate would have an aptitude for policy analysis, experience in community organizing and knowledge of land use planning and/or public health. This position is at the intersection of the built environment public health movement and the community development movement and entails bridging different organizational philosophies and histories. The position staffs a large coalition of disparate organizations and individuals. The ability to work with and inspire diverse groups is essential to the job.
Frequent local travel required, including travel in Sacramento, Yolo, Placer, Yuba, Sutter and El Dorado Counties. Occasional out of area travel is required. Valid driver's license, insurance and reliable transportation is necessary. Evening and weekend meetings and events are common. This position has a flexible schedule and we are family and dog friendly.
