Beyond Shelter Executive Director/Chief Operating Officer

Reporting directly to the President, the Executive Director/ Chief Operating Officer will have responsibility for day-to-day operations of all agency programs, services, and administrative functions. These primary responsibilities will exclude marketing & development activities. They will also exclude responsibility for operations of the agency’s Institute for Research, Training and Technical Assistance. However, the Executive Director will at various times participate in the agency’s marketing and development functions. The Executive Director will also function as a participating member of the Institute staff. The President/CEO and Executive Director/COO will work closely together with the management team. The Executive Director will be the key spokesperson for Beyond Shelter locally, regionally and statewide, and will provide leadership in the field. The President/CEO will be the key spokesperson nationally. The Executive Director/COO will be vigilant in sustaining Beyond Shelter’s commitment to multiculturalism, and attentive to internal management and team-building. QUALIFICATIONS Requirements: A Ph.D or MA in social services, nonprofit management, urban planning, community development or a related field, and a minimum of five years of experience at a nonprofit management level. Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, strong leadership, and decision-making skills. The successful candidate should have a proven ability to promote teamwork and collaboration among varied individuals and organizations. Candidates should have a successful background in budgeting and finance, program development and implementation, fundraising and public advocacy. Candidates should be able to demonstrate the capacity to lead and manage a complex, diverse organization in a manner that is progressive and consistent. The Executive Director must have the skill to assure that the agency’s programs are responsive to the dynamic, changing needs of those it serves, and that the methods and resources employed reflect the highest standard of “best practices”.
