Nonprofit organizations working to improve their local communities are the cornerstones of vibrant neighborhoods. The work of these organizations and their dedicated leaders improves the quality of education, creates safer neighborhoods, builds more affordable housing, addresses critical social service needs, and brings about positive change in communities.
Bank of America's Neighborhood Builders award strengthens the capacity and infrastructure of nonprofit organizations and promotes the leadership development of their executives. Awardees are provided with $200,000 in core operating support over two years. In addition, the executive director and emerging leader from each nonprofit participate in a leadership development program during the first year of funding.
Every neighborhood has its heroes-whether they are advocates for affordable housing; mentors working with at-risk students;volunteers assisting the homeless or business leaders leading the charge for local education reform-these outstanding individuals are shaping the communities in which they live.
Bank of America created the Local Heroes award to honor these role models and their efforts to improve their communities. Each Local Hero is able to direct a $5,000 grant donation from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation to an eligible nonprofit of their choice and is recognized at a public ceremony celebrating their achievements.
Investing in and cultivating future leaders is a critical component of sustaining and developing the growth of vibrant neighborhoods.
The Bank of America Student Leaders Award offers high school juniors and seniors firsthand opportunities to discover how they can help shape their communities now and in the future. Student Leaders participate in a paid summer internship with a local nonprofit organization and engage in a Student Leadership Summit held in Washington, D.C. These activities provide students with valuable civic, business and private sector perspectives.
