Inland Empire Working Group Kicks-off Green Building Series

SCANPH's Inland Empire Working Group will be hosting its inaugural Green Building workshop June 25, 2008 at the Coffee Depot in downtown Riverside. The first in a series of workshops exploring innovations in environmentally sustainable affordable housing development will focus on the basics of green building.

Throughout the Inland Empire, renters and homeowners alike have been financially squeezed by the steadily increasing cost of petroleum-based products, such as gasoline and heating oil. The need for sustainable and cost-effective utilities management will only be magnified in the months ahead by the recent declaration by Governor Schwarzenegger that consecutive years of low rainfall have pushed California into a drought, leading some to speculate that water rationing could be on the horizon.

With this environmental background in mind, experts in the field of environmentally sustainable affordable development will be leading workshop participants in a lively discussion on topics ranging from current green technology to the increasingly important role green solutions play in financing affordable homes. Attendance by both non-profit and market-rate developers as well as municipal staff will also bring a diversity of perspectives to the event.
