I. Donald Terner Residency Program

The I. Donald Terner Residency Program honors the spirit of Don Terner, founder of BRIDGE Housing, and inspires a new generation of social leaders. The Terner Resident will serve in a two-year fellowship in the San Francisco office of BRIDGE Housing, working to move the organization forward in the field of housing policy. This is an excellent opportunity for experience and training with California's largest nonprofit developer of affordable homes for working families and seniors.

The Terner Resident will report directly to and work closely with the CEO, senior management staff and board members of BRIDGE Housing. He or she will lead the creation of BRIDGE's efforts on all relevant housing policy so that the organization increases its influence on state and national housing policy.

Resident responsibilities include:

Policy Research and Development
• Filter and disseminate policy information to BRIDGE staff and board members
• Research policy work and initiatives of other California housing agencies
• Gather information from staff and board regarding concerns or changes the organization would like to see to current housing policies
• Work with CEO and staff to develop new ideas and initiatives, and draft policy proposals
• Track current housing-related legislation and help formulate BRIDGE's positions
• Draft correspondence to policy makers based on feedback from BRIDGE staff
• Provide a suggested position and plan for BRIDGE on current legislation

Networking
• Arrange forums in conjunction with educational groups to discuss new approaches to affordable housing challenges
• Set up meetings with key decision makers to exchange ideas and/or convey BRIDGE's thoughts regarding a particular issue
• Act as a liaison between BRIDGE and other housing organizations

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree required, preferably with emphasis in the fields of public policy, political science or urban studies
• Work or volunteer experience in policy or the political arena
• Excellent research skills
• Excellent communication and networking skills
• Strong interest in housing, community development and urban revitalization

Salary and Benefits:
The Terner Resident will receive a stipend of $40,000-$45,000 annually, based on experience, plus benefits.
