Join Us at the SCANPH Workshops: An Inside Look On What To Expect

SCANPH Workshop

as reported by Blayne Sutton-Wills, SCANPH Program Director

On April 16, SCANPH held a very informative and interactive workshop on Understanding Title Insurance for housing developers, project managers, public agency staff, and public and private lenders, as well as municipal staff from small cities and the County.

The workshop covered basic components of title insurance, including some of the common mistakes that cause delays in closing or, the dreaded, claims being filed. The workshop was moderated by Amy Anderson of California Housing Partnership Corporation.

The distinguished panel seated Norm Chernin- Senior Commercial Underwriting Counsel, and Jimmy Morada- Senior Commercial Title Officer from First American Title Insurance Company; and Sharon Yarber - Senior Commercial Underwriting Counsel, and Diane Greer - Senior Commercial Title Officer from LandAmerica Commercial Services. The discussion was robust with the audience asking tough questions and the panel providing solid answers and poignant insights into getting the most out of your next experience with a title company.

The discussion covered the importance of analyzing the Preliminary Title Report (PTR), the difference between an ALTA and a CLTA, getting the right endorsements for your project, recording of regulatory agreements, and explained what a clear agency subordination agreement means.

Judging from the evaluation feedback and talking with the audience members it was a very successful workshop, providing the information and answers they needed to navagate the complex word of title insurance. The panelists were knowledgeable and conscientious about answering everyone's question.

Many thanks to First American Title Insurance Company and LandAmerica Commercial Services, as well as California Housing Partnership Corporation. On behalf of SCANPH, I hope to see you at the next SCANPH workshop where you can get the training, information, and answers you need to be successful in your projects!
