Job/Life Coach Manager

Lamp Community is an innovative Los Angeles based nonprofit organization that permanently ends homelessness improves health and builds self-sufficiency among men and women living with severe mental illness.

Description: Manage a program that helps 90 homeless and formerly homeless individuals living with severe mental illness obtain supported or independent employment and/or achieve self-identified goals related to job development, educational enhancement or volunteering. Train and supervise (2) Job/Life Coach Specialists. Help integrate employment and educational activities within each team. Maintain oversight to ensure that each participant’s goals relating to paid or volunteer work, community integration and rehabilitation are supported by appropriate services and best practices. Develop successful partnerships with local employers and employee groups. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with Department of Rehabilitation and other community human service agencies for referral and recruiting. Facilitate job fairs and agency’s housing and service sites. Mentor, coach and provide direct job and educational development, placement and retention services to about 15 persons. Help consumers with limited recent work histories build confidence by focusing on strengths and providing encouragement and support that will lead to patterns of success. Coordinate workshops for job seekers on topics such as resume writing, interviewing, networking and working while on SSI/SSDI. Lead support groups.

Manage program budget. Develop and implement program polices and procedures. Track number individuals in competitive employment and other meaningful activities. Monitor and evaluate overall program metrics/outcomes. Prepare reports internally and for funders. Assure fidelity to Lamp Community’s supported employment model that has a zero exclusion policy which means that all consumers that express a desire to work, volunteer or return to school are provided with services and opportunities. Report to Director of Programs.

Requirements: BA. Master’s in Social Work or Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling preferred. Minimum 4 years experience serving persons with severe mental illness with at least 2 years of supervisory experience. Demonstrated experience with psychosocial rehabilitation, community mental health, harm reduction and/or permanent supportive housing. Proven leadership, team-building, organizational and project management skills. Creative, flexible, self-starter who can think outside the box to create meaningful job and other opportunities for persons living with a mental illness. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies. Ability to write clearly and concisely. Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and database applications. Commitment to agency’s social mission and values. Competitive salary/excellent benefits.
