POSTPONED TO May 2008:SCANPH Brown Bag Presentation: What Do We Mean by Housing First?

31 Mar 2008 - 11:30am
31 Mar 2008 - 1:30pm

SCANPH's Property and Asset Management Working Group (PAMWG) is presenting the 1st Brown Bag of 2008

What Do We Mean by Housing First?

Emerging in the early 1990s, the term's basic premise is that homeless and at-risk people and families are best served by moving into permanent housing, with comprehensive services provided to help them with the challenges they face in their lives after they have a permanent place to live, rather than housing them first in shelters or transitional housing as a prerequisite to moving into permanent housing.

The use and definition of the term Housing First has been tailored over the years by affordable housing developers, property managers, and the supportive services industry. As mission driven CDCs, affordable housing providers and supportive services, begin to partner in order to more effectively serve the most vulnerable populations, we need to know how each part of this industry, as well as how individual practitioners, have come to understand "Housing First". We at PAMWG think it is important to discuss how that understanding affects our partnerships and the policies, operations and bottom line success of our organizations. This brown bag meeting is an informal gathering of the professionals who are grappling daily with the realities of housing people facing some of the greatest challenges. Join PAMWG for this exciting discussion!
