Housing LA Launch - March 5th 2008

Last year Housing LA focused our organizing efforts to recruiting members throughout the City and to turning up the heat on our Mayor and City Council and calling for immediate action to address the housing crisis. We have successfully built real momentum and energy:

  • We’ve secured close to 100 organizational endorsements;
  • Mobilized more than1500 community members to our Spring Affordable Housing March and Fall Townhall meetings;
  • And secured public endorsements for our 3-Point-Plan from Council Members Garcetti, Wesson and Perry.

Now is the time to capitalize on our momentum and to continue to solidify council and mayoral support for our 3-Point-Plan.

On Wednesday, March 5th we will kick off our spring advocacy drive and publicly launch our 3-Point-Plan campaign. The launch will begin with a press conference at 9:00am on the south side steps of City Hall. Following the press conference delegations of community members and allies will enter City Hall to visit council offices and demonstrate with our presence the urgent need for preserving and producing affordable homes.

This is an opportunity for all of us to come together to show that we are unified in our call for the city to fully fund the Housing Trust Fund, pass a strong citywide mixed-income ordinance, and to save and protect the affordable homes that are currently at risk of conversion or demolition.

We are calling on all of our working group members, campaign endorsers, friends and allies to join us on this day of action. We encourage everyone to bring signs, banners and to wear their organizational t-shirts.

For questions and to confirm your attendance, contact Eric at (213) 480-1249, x254 or email eares@scanph.org.

We look forward to seeing you on the 5th!
