California Department of Housing and Community Development Launches Special Section of Web Site Dedicated to Finding a Permanent Funding Source for Affordable Housing

California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) Director Lynn L. Jacobs has announced the launch of a special section of the department's website designed to develop recommendations for the Administration on securing a permanent funding source for affordable housing.

"We cannot rely on the housing propositions alone," said Director Jacobs. "California needs a long-term public revenue source that is dedicated to financing affordable housing. It's up to us to find a way to assure affordable housing is a part of every Californians future."

HCD will work with a variety of key stakeholders in the business, education, environmental, local government, and housing communities during the first six months of the year. The goal of the collaboration is to identify and coordinate efforts on securing potential funding sources and establish efficient methods of distribution for a permanent source for affordable housing.

HCD will hold seven regional meetings throughout the State with key stakeholders during the first six months of the year with a variety of hosts and co-hosts for each meeting. In addition to these major, regional meetings which will be led by the Director, HCD Deputy Directors will convene smaller focus groups throughout the State to hear from constituents and locations not covered in the meetings above.

During the months of July and August 2008, HCD will be compiling recommendations for the Governor's administration, with feedback from meeting participants. HCD plans to have a final draft for review by the Governor's office no later than September 30, 2008.

The special section can be accessed by clicking the Permanent Source logo on the HCD website, www.hcd.ca.gov. Once there, stakeholders can sign up for email and newsletter distribution lists, leave comments, find information about Permanent Source meetings in their area and read a summary of HCD's loan and grant programs.
