(San Diego Region Update from the San Diego Housing Federation) Update on City of San Diego and County of San Diego Housing Elements - The San Diego Housing Federation (SDHF) continues to monitor jurisdictions in San Diego County as they prepare their Housing Elements for 2013-2020. Jurisdictions are busily preparing to fi nalize their documents before April 2013, as is required by state law. Last month, SDHF submitted comments to the City of San Diego Planning Commission and Land Use & Housing Committee outlining recommendations for implementation of the ‘best practices’ policies recommended by SDHF in the last round of public comment. These recommendations included endorsing the Homes and Jobs Act (SB 391), identifying a pilot project for new planning concepts, recognizing aff ordable housing as infrastructure, establishing a local revenue source, and allowing for the density bonus to be used off -site. This month, the County of San Diego will be accepting public comment on their draft housing element. As with housing elements for other jurisdictions in the San Diego region, SDHF will review the draft document and submit suggestions for best practices to be included. If you would also like to submit comments on the draft, send them to Dixie Switzer at Dixie.Switzer@sdcounty.ca.gov or 5511 Overland Avenue, Suite 310, San Diego, CA 92123. The deadline for public comment is February 28.
(As part of the statewide efforts to build stronger regional affordable housing networks, SCANPH will be now providing monthly updates from all of the regions in Southern California.)
