PROJECT ASSISTANT

  

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  Mercy Housing California, a statewide and national leader in the development, ownership, and management of service enriched affordable housing, is seeking a highly motivated and exceptionally capable project assistant to assist with the execution of a development pipeline that totals over 3,000 units.  The Project Assistant will work out of the Los Angeles development office in a fast-paced work environment. The project assistant will provide all types of administrative, technical and community development analysis to real estate developers and directors all three California offices, Los Angeles, Sacramento, and San Francisco. Multi-tasking, flexibility and the ability to learn quickly are essential qualities.  Some travel to our California regional offices will be required.  This is a full time position.

I.          QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education:

Bachelor’s degree required with a preference for a degree in economics, planning, or related field.  Other professional qualifications, including significant work experience in affordable housing, may be substituted for a degree.

 

 

Experience:

Minimum of one year of demonstrated experience in related work, preferably low-income housing.

 

 

Abilities:

·         Understanding of and commitment to the Mission and Values of Mercy Housing.

 

·         Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.      

 

·         Demonstrated proficiency level in Microsoft Office Suite software.

 

·         Ability to produce and analyze financial spreadsheets.

 

·         Ability to relate positively to people from diverse backgrounds and professional levels.

 

·         Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality with regard to privileged legal and financial matters.

 

 


II.        ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

 

A.     TECHNICAL/FUNCTIONAL                                                                          

 

1.

Assists Developer in meeting with Mercy Housing Management staff to determine resident profile and service needs.

 

 

2.

Assists in performing tasks necessary to obtain local approvals and neighborhood acceptance of proposed housing projects including submitting land use applications, attending hearings and neighborhood meetings, and fostering a team approach to obtaining neighborhood acceptance.

 

 

3.

Provides support to Developer in the on-going coordination between architects, contractors, and other members of the Project Development team.

 

 

4.

Prepares project financial analysis including preparing applications for funding.

 

 

5.

Performs all types of administrative tasks associated with housing development. 

 

 

6.

Meets regularly with the Regional Director of Housing Development and provides written and oral progress reports as requested.
