A new report by the National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC) reveals the deep and growing mismatch between the supply and demand of affordable units for the lowest income renters. According to NLIHC’s analysis of 2010 American Community Survey (ACS) Public Use Microdata Sample (PUMS) data, there were only 30 affordable and available rental units for every 100 extremely low income (ELI) renter households in 2010. ELI households are those with incomes at or below 30% of the area median income (AMI).
