Town Hall Meeting With Council Member Herb Wesson

Last Thursday night more than 300 community members, clergy leaders and housing advocates gathered at St. Odelia’s Church for a People of Faith town hall meeting with Councilmember Jan Perry and Housing Manager Mercedes Marquez. Group representatives in attendance included A Community of Friends, POWER, Coalition for Responsible Development, 1010 Development, United University Church, LACAN, SAJE, KIWA and CES. The event began with community members giving powerful testimony describing their current struggles in finding decent affordable housing, increasing rents and poor housing conditions.

Leaders from LA Voice then asked Jan Perry if we can count on her support and leadership in passing Housing LA’s 3-Point-Plan,. Jan Perry then stood before an enlarge LA VOICE/Housing LA pledge card and signed her name. Eric Garcetti, having committed to Housing LA’s 3-Point-Plan in July, will also sign the pledge card. The goal is to have each councilmember sign the card in the coming months.

Our work is not done. We are looking for our next council endorsement and public pledge from Councilmember Herb Wesson. We can’t do this without you! Please join us for our third town hall meeting with Councilmember Wesson this Sunday, November 9th at 1:30pm. The Town Hall will be held at St. Agatha's Parish Family Church located at 2646 S. Mansfield Ave, Los Angeles CA 90016.

With the new year quickly approaching we want to make sure we send a clear message to our Mayor and the entire City Council that it’s time they work together in ending LA’s housing crisis. Help us continue to turn up the heat and build upon momentum this Sunday.

If you or members of your organization plan to attend, please confirm your attendance by calling Francesca at 213-480-1249, x252 or email fdelarosa@scanph.org.
