A.C.T.I.O.N. UpdateSubmitted by Robert Dhondrup on 11 Jan 2010 - 2:11pm.(A special thanks to Matt Schwartz and Marilyn Wacks for this update on LIHTC Federal Legislation)
Just before the holidays the House passed the extenders bill with the 9% exchange extension included, but the Senate did not act on it. The House also passed a jobs bill (HR 2847), but it did not include the proposals that affordable home adovcates had hoped for. There may be another House jobs bill with business tax provisions because President Obama called for such provisions in final jobs legislation as a means of addressing unemployment. The House will be back in session on January 12. The Senate will consider an extenders bill and a jobs bill soon. Senators Durbin (D-IL) and Dorgan (D-ND) are leading the development of the jobs bill in the Senate, and thus are key targets. The Senate will return January 19. Three things you can do now to support the campaign: 1. Contact Senators Durbin and Dorgan as well as Senate Finance Committee members to urge their support for our proposals in upcoming tax legislation. 2. Contact House Leadership and Ways & Means members, especially through in-person meetings, with the same message. 3. Contact local media especially those outlets located in districts of House Ways & Means Committee members and states of Senate Finance Committee members, to urge them to editorialize in favor of our proposals. |
